Rebuild, Restore, Revitalize, Outreach, Educate, Equip & Empower
Making a difference in our community
In our search for the perfect home, it has been brought to our attention that over the past ten years there are areas which have suffered a drastic decline due to the influx of crime, unemployment, and under-education in areas of Florida and surrounding areas. Nearly eighty percent of the families in low income communities are unemployed and house at least one adult who has not graduated from high school. With no jobs and no education, the communities have rapidly deteriorated with the invasion of criminal activity.
Objective
Over a five-year period in a phased-based approach, Rehabilitation of The Heart will rebuild, restore and revitalize different communities throughout Florida into a viable and sustainable community where families reside, shop, and gain education through supporting the businesses that operate therein. Additionally, Rehabilitation of The Heart will offer outreach programs to educate, equip and empower the lives of residents throughout Florida, which total more than 21.57 million people.
The success of this project is accomplished by establishing successful partnerships with current residents, residents of surrounding communities, state community service organizations, government, outside business and academic entities, and many others. These partnerships will establish a governance and advisory committee responsible for restoring various areas to the affluent and thriving community that it has been in the past, thereby being a model for revitalization of depressed and deteriorated communities throughout Florida.
Keys to success include the ability to establish a self-sustaining community through ongoing leadership, homeownership, commercial and residential growth, youth services, healthcare, education, reduced homelessness, and employment. Measurement of this success will not only be visual but will be reflected in the people who live within the communities and the improvement of their educational and economic status, crime reduction or remediation, and the ability to attract people from surrounding communities and throughout the area to live, work and frequent businesses in Florida.
Benefits and Impact the Project
The following is a concept overview:
All Purpose Recreation Center
Provide a community auditorium for graduations and other community conferences and meetings (5,000-person seating capacity). A multi-purpose facility will include a gymnasium with a weight room, art classroom, dance recital room, computer lab, classrooms for soft skills training, & Life skills training, cafeteria, and food pantry for feeding and clothing closet for the less fortunate and banquet hall that will channel at-risk youth and adults in a positive direction.
Housing Program
Nearly 65% of the residents in low-income areas rent their homes. Also, there are a lot of vacant and dilapidated homes that makes Tampa an eye sore and does not instill any pride in the citizens. Our goal is to purchase various properties and employee individuals in our trade base skilled programs to restore and revitalize these homes to create homes for their families.
Addiction Recovery Center
Partner to provide a multi-level facility, similar to a hospital, to address the different addictions of each patient. Both inpatient and outpatient treatment will be administered by certified and licensed counselors
Educational Enhancement
Provide a state-of-the-art facility strategically in the community to house a Child Learning Center for enrolled students, Life Skills classes such as but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, CDL instructions, cosmetology/barbering, nursing assistant & culinary vocational school. All curriculums will be compliant with the State of Florida Education guidelines.
Transition Center
Provide transitional facilities for incarcerated individuals being released from prison. Case workers and mentors will be provided to help the individuals to become independent and self-sustaining. Furthermore, it is our goal to have long-term transitional housing that these individuals can transition to if necessary to provide a long-term stability.
Back To Work Program
This program will assist the unemployed in getting back to work by offering assistance in job placement, resume building classes, interview classes. We have teamed with various trade-based employers in order to offer jobs to eligible individuals through on the job training programs.
Rehabilitation of the Heart would help to provide a steady tax base, and revitalize and restore a deteriorated community.
There are only a few newer homes in lower income areas throughout Florida and many of the homes are functionally obsolete. Updates have been done on many of the older homes, but they still have deficiencies. With limited recreation, many youth turn towards less productive activity involving crime, drug abuse, unprotected sex and the like. Of the estimated 21.57 million residents of the surrounding area, nearly 15% live at or below the poverty level. Plagued by unemployment, homelessness, lack of educational opportunities and near inexistence of sustainable businesses and industry, Florida is a prime area for revitalization and development.
Fund Raising Sources
The major source of funds to get the project started will be from investors, donors, community, and federal grants.
A grants office will be established to continually seek funds from corporations, foundations, and government agencies.
The grants office will also be responsible for conducting regular fundraising programs.
Other sources of assistance are:
In-kind help from churches for cleanup and construction assistance
Hillsborough County Correction and the Federal work release program will provide help for various projects.
Hillsborough County Housing Finance Authority and other government agencies.
Federal Housing Agencies such as HUD.
Community volunteers
Volunteer. Give Back.
Restoring the heart in our community
At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished.... It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.
Thank you Project Helping and Daystar Life Center for allowing us to team with you to make an impact in our community and our people.
